Job Title: Director of Digital Marketing, Digital Strategies

      Department: Digital Strategies

Location: Oakland, CA; Washington, DC; or remote

Reports to: Acting Senior Director, Digital Strategies

Supervises: Email, Online Fundraising, and Web teams in Digital Strategies department

Context: At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of interdependence. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel injustice, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our future. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it. Sierra Club has close to 800 staff across the country and a network of 64 local chapters that are led and fueled by thousands of volunteers. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with three labor unions representing more than half of our employees.

Scope: The Director of Digital Marketing will establish a new team to integrate Sierra Club’s campaigning, fundraising, programming, and membership offerings into a comprehensive digital subscriber experience.

This is a new senior role in the Digital department -- the Director of Digital Marketing will have the opportunity to build a team and work with existing strategists and practitioners. They will work in close partnership across departments, with a strong tie to our Communications leadership team, to create a holistic email and mobile strategy to achieve fundraising, narrative, brand, and organizing goals while growing our lists and maintaining their health.

We’re looking for someone that is plugged into what’s happening online and offline – a systems thinker and project manager that can take large amounts of information and build plans and produce results from it. The Director of Digital Marketing should also be highly organized, a strong communicator, and a leader that motivates others.

This position directly relates to the 24 hour news cycle which will sometimes require weeknight and weekend hours.
